Helen Levitt’s wonderfully candid black-and-white shots from the 1930s and 40s of urban kids playing and ordinary people going about their lives— as well as the wonderfully warm and humorous street theater in her dye-transfer color prints from the 60s through the 80s— have inspired generations of photographers. Now is the time for her work to inspire you.

With that in mind, this year’s Helen Levitt Photography Contest invites photographers to interpret Contemporary Life in America. Of course, there are many ways to approach this subject, but we are looking for your take on contemporary American society— your daily life, your friends and family, your thrills and disappointments, your commentary, the things that make you laugh and smile, and the things that console you. We want to see all of it. The hurt, as well as the every day, and the fantastic. Most importantly, we want your photographs to speak for themselves.

One photograph from every submission will be displayed at Kobo Gallery the week of A-Town Get Down Festival 2018.   A separate solo show will be held for Professional winners at a soon-to-be-announced Savannah gallery.
